This Taurus balanced R2R DAC from Musician is a high-end DAC incorporating top-of-the-range components and delivering incredibly rich, clear sound reproduction.
The Taurus R2R balanced architecture is complemented by two independent FPGAs to control the decoding of each channel via its four R2R networks composed of Panasonic resistors (0.005% accuracy). This prevents linear errors while maintaining high decoding speed and extremely low digital noise. The Taurus DAC's circuitry is completed by an Altera main FPGA control chip, two 49.152MHz and 45.1584MHz OCXO crystal oscillators, and an ARM STM32F446 CPU chip linked to a proprietary USB interface solution. This combination enables the Taurus DAC to accept high-resolution PCM 24bit 1536kHz and native DSD streams up to DSD1024.
Musician Taurus: proprietary digital filter technology
The Taurus DAC uses digital filter technology operating in Over Sampling 16x mode. Each filter level has a 32-bit input resolution, enabling a considerable increase in dynamic range and a natural, delicate sound reproduction.

R2R array
Each channel is equipped with two Panasonic resistor networks, each with a dedicated FPGA. This ensures very low levels of noise and distortion.
Thermostatic crystal oscillators (OCXO)
Thermostatic crystal oscillators provide outstanding frequency stability for extremely low jitter decoding.
Altera FGPA chip
Altera's main FPGA chip is used to shorten the signal path and avoid any coloration that might interfere with high-purity sound reproduction.
USB solution
Musician's proprietary USB interface is coupled with an STM32F446 driver chip to support very high-resolution streams.

The two clock outputs, 49.152MHz and 45.1584MHz respectively, can be used to synchronize a wide range of audio devices.
Musician Taurus: an optimized linear power supply
The power supply stage of this R2R DAC features a 250 W O-core transformer coupled with LT1763 and LT3045 voltage regulators for efficient filtering. This guarantees a low-noise, highly stable power supply.

The Musician Taurus has been designed to offer broad compatibility via its I2S input, thanks to phase adjustment accessible as follows:
- Select I2S-A1 or I2S-A2 input.
- Press the PHASE button in the I2S pin function setting to switch the I2S pin configuration.
- Stop the operation once the correct settings are in place, and the Musician Taurus will exit setting mode after 5 seconds.
